Hello everyone, it’s Ida again.
Today I would like to show you the art from artists that have influenced my work so far and the ones I currently like, and hopefully inspire some of my fellow artists.
In the previous post I wrote a bit about how I started drawing from a young age, especialy in primary school. I grew up watching nature documentaries so just like now, I was obsessed with animals. I used to have this little book that I carried everywhere with me called How to Draw Animals. I bet I can still remember all of its pages. It was filled with wonderful drawings of horses, lions and goats and something I looked up to for years.
Now I’m not calling myself old, but back in primary school I didn't really use the internet to find art and reference images, so once I was introduced to its limitless resources I never looked back. Some of the first artists I found online were of course ones that drew animals too. I remember not even knowing what DeviantArt was, but admiring and mimicking the work of a user called WildSpiritWolf. As the name says, they drew wolves and they started a whole new obsession. I came up with my own characters and a compelling story of their lives. I regret not saving many of those early artworks, but I guarantee there are some still kicking about in my childhood home.

Throughout high school I started following many artist influencers on Instagram. Many of them focused more on drawing humans and so I gave that a try too. The first one I remember was Laura Brouwers also known as @cyarine. She is a very popular artist on Instagram with almost two million followers and she’s been posting for almost ten years now. I really like how her personality shines through her work and how she as an artist is an integral part of her creations.

The second one was Lois van Baarle who goes by the name of Loish (@loisvb). She creates wonderfully colourful and detail digital portraits of girls and women. I find the movement and depth ofher work captivating and admire her sketches.

The third artist who I followed during that time is Ira Sluyterman, also known as @iraville on Instagram. She creates wonderful landscapes in the traditional media and uses a wonderful colour palette. Her artowkrs are atmospheric and calming and she makes me wish I was better at using water colour.

Now my art and the people who influence it are a little different. In the last few years I have narrowed down my focus towards illustration and I admire artists who own small businesses and sell products with their art. An artist like that who I discovered quite recently is Catherine, the owner of a small busines called Katnipp. She makes everything from prints and stickers, to enamel pins and social media content and I find her consistent style and effort admirable. I get the impression she is a very hardowrking woman and I aspire to be like her some day.

I am glad I bumped into all these talented individuals online while developing my own style and artistic goals and I am grateful for what they have taught me. I hope to be like them some day, and inspire and encourage future artists.
Thank you for reading.
